Simple Ways to Connect with Your Teen: Have a Text-Only Meal Conversation

Published by Roger Butner on

Above is just one screenshot example of the kind of goofiness my son and I sometimes share in our text exchanges. I do love a good GIF! So, my last entry in this series of posts is the quirkiest one, I suppose. And not one to be overused, for sure. But every now and then, if you’re looking for a different way to connect with your teen: share a meal together where you follow one basic communication guideline: all sharing and dialogue is to be done with your screens! Texts, GIFS, memes, video links, etc. – have fun sharing with each other, but without using “normal” verbal conversational exchanges. Your daughter or son may think you’re a lunatic or huge idiot at first, but if you’re willing to really get into it wit them, you may both be surprised how much you enjoy it – and what you discover about one another. It’s just a simple way to turn your communication on its side and take a fresh approach at sharing with one another.
