Momnipotent

Published by Roger Butner on

Thanks to a client of mine, I was introduced to this amazing artist and song this week.  The artist’s name is Nancy White, and the song is “Momnipotent.”  Following are the lyrics.  Two things struck me hard enough in this song to compel me to share it as my blog offering for the week.  First, I know so many women who feel exactly like my new friend, Nancy.  And, second, I am blown away by someone who can be so Real!  One of my greatest desires for my clients, my church, my family, and myself is that we can learn to have the courage, honesty, and integrity to be really Real.  May the words of Nancy’s song encourage you to hang in there and keep going as a parent, and inspire you to be Real about your experiences and beliefs in life!

“Sometimes I feel like the other mothers are the real mothers, and me, I’m just playing a role, and I don’t know my lines, and the writing’s so bad!

Sometimes it seems like the other mothers are so organized.  Their kids eat tofu and sleep through the night, while at our house, the chaos is driving me mad.

Sometimes I feel like my husband and I are just babysitting for this wonderful child, and the parents just never come home, and we’re muddling through.

Sometimes I lose my temper in public, and it always feels like everybody’s staring and saying, “Well, there goes a mother who hasn’t a clue!”

But, I’m momnipotent, momnipotent!  And if you believe me, I’ve got some land in a Florida swamp that you might like to buy.

I am momnipotent, momnipotent, momnipotent, momnipotent!  I’m great at my job, and you’ll never hear my baby cry.

Lately we’re fighting over sugar and salt, and putting on shoes, and I guess it’s my fault, cause I can’t be consistent, and that’s how a mother should be.

All I can do that’s consistent is love her and constantly tell her how proud I am of her.  But, as for the rest, I can’t seem to find the key.

But I’m momnipotent, momnipotent!  And if you believe me, I’ve got this big ole bridge in Brooklyn that you might like to buy.

I am momnipotent, momnipotent, momnipotent, momnipotent!  I’m great at my job, and you’ll never hear my baby, patient and calm, and I don’t mean maybe, perfectly groomed, and there’s nobody saner, three times I work out with a trainer, my novel’s almost finished, and my child and I are studying Suzuki violin, she’s always asking questions, and I’m always answering, and we expect to have another baby in the spring…

Cause I’m momnipotent!”

I can definitely relate–on a regular basis! If you like this artist and her lyrics, you may also want to visit Sara Groves site and listen to a sampling of her “Station Wagons–songs for parents” CD. I love her music and everyday REAL lyrics and songs from her and her Christian aspect to the lyrics of her songs (her other CDs are awesome,as well). If you are not familiar with her music, take some a little time to listen to some of it–you’ll be happy you did!
